Apollo Tyres’ EV-specific tyres launched: What sets them apart from your regular car tyres

Tyre manufacturing giant Apollo Tyres has launched their new range of EV-specific tyres for the Indian market. The Apollo Amperion range of tyres will cater to the passenger vehicles segment and the Apollo WAV range has been developed for electric two-wheelers. The Amperion range of tyres has also received a 5 star rating by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for fuel savings.
The Amperion range of EV-specific tyres offer minimal rolling resistance, low noise, an electric tread pattern design and aerodynamic sidewalls.It will cater to the hatchback, compact SUV and sedan segments in India, such as the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona and other upcoming electric vehicles.

The 2-wheeler focused WAV range features a specialised design, low rolling resistance, light weight and high traction to resist the initial torque produced by the electric motor. These will be suitable for the majority of high performance electric scooters available in India, such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X. Apollo Tyres plans to develop EV-specific tyres for motorcycles in the next phase, considering the extremely low number of products on sale in this category currently.
The company has also innovated cutting edge technologies to build these EV-specific tyres. ‘AQuT Tech’ (Apollo Quiet Tyre Technology) helped develop tyre cavity, pattern and construction to reduce noise. The ‘BEST Tech’ (Battery Energy Saver Technology), offers ultra low RR technology package which helps extend battery range of the electric vehicle. As a result, Apollo Amperion design has been inspired by Jellyfish, being the most energy efficient and silent creature, and the design for Apollo WAV is inspired by digital circuit board design.

We are already in discussions with multiple OEMs in India to supply these tyres for the electric vehicles, and will be targeting for the lion’s share in the EV space in India, in both PV and two-wheeler segments.”
