Toyota to build 1 lakh-capacity India plant by 2029: Details
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced plans to set up a new vehicle manufacturing facility in India. The upcoming plant will be located at the Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra and is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2029.
The new facility will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles and is expected to generate around 2,800 jobs at the start of production. Toyota says the plant will manufacture a new SUV and will handle key production operations including stamping, welding, painting and assembly.
According to the company, the new manufacturing hub is part of its strategy to strengthen its long-term business operations in India while also catering to demand from nearby international markets.
Currently, Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka. The first plant, established in October 1997 with production beginning in December 1999, manufactures models such as the Toyota Innova HyCross, Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Legender. This facility has an installed production capacity of up to 1,32,000 units annually.
Toyota’s second plant started production in December 2010 and currently rolls out models including the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Toyota Hilux. The second facility has an annual production capacity of up to 2,10,000 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor currently has a total installed production capacity of up to 3,42,000 units across its existing facilities.
