After much ado, the
Mahindra & Mahindra e-Verito was finally launched in India at Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base D2 trim, on Thursday. First showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the car is a fully electric version of the Mahindra Verito sedan.
Much has changed since its first appearance though, thanks to Mahindra's electric subsidiary, Reva. Motive power is provided by a 72V electric motor, which produces the equivalent of 41PS of power and peak torque figure of 91Nm.
Mahindra promises a top speed of 86kmph for the e-Verito.
Fully charged, the e-Verito will reportedly travel 110 kilometres before needing a juice-up. The full charging time is a hefty eight hours, which is the biggest drawback electric vehicles have compared to their conventional counterparts. With that in mind, Mahindra is providing a faster charging mode for the top end D6 trim (Rs 10 lakh) of the e-Verito which brings the charging time down to six and a half hours. Other than these two, there is also the mid-trim D4, priced at Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
On the outside, the e-Verito remains the same as its fossil fuel-powered sibling, save for the minor nips and tucks on the front and the badgings at the rear.
To cope with the drag that normal tyres produce, Mahindra has fitted the e-Verito with low rolling-resistance tyres.
Following the
diesel car ban in Delhi and subsidies given by the government to electric vehicles, the Indian carmaker has seen opportunity in adversity with the e-Verito. Not estimated to be a volume-seller, the car will be a versatile addition to
Mahindra's portfolio, ahead of its hybrid version, expected to be rolled out in the near future.
