NEW DELHI: India's leading two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL) on Monday announced its foray in the 125cc scooter segment with 'Destini 125'. The model is available in a fully loaded VX variant along with an affordable LX trim, priced at Rs 57,500 and Rs 54,650 (both ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively.
The new Hero will compete with the likes of the Honda Activa 125 (starting price Rs 59,921) and the Suzuki Access 125 (starting price Rs 55,666). The new premium scooter comes just after one month of the launch of Hero's premium motorcycle Xtreme 200R. It hints at the company's increasing focus on the premium products.
"We have a strong pipeline of new products in both scooter and premium motorcycle segments, which we will launch in the coming months," said Dr Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Office, HMCL.
First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo as the Duet 125, the Hero Destini 125 looks like an upgraded version of the company's 110cc scooter Duet. The version gets both cosmetic and mechanical upgrades and it looks quite premium like its rivals. The front apron of the scooter gets a large chrome panel that merges with the integrated turn indicators and the headlamp is conventionally mounted with a bikini fairing on the handlebar. The chrome garnishing is throughout the body panels as well, however, it is available on the VX variant only. The scooter is only available in metallic colour options - brown, red, black and white.
The Destini 125 gets features like a digital instrument cluster, external fuel filling, under-seat mobile charger (optional) boot light, and alloy wheels in the VX variant. Tubeless tyres and Integrated Braking System (IBS) comes as standard in both variants.
Powering the scooter is a new 125cc, air-cooled engine which churns out 8.7PS of power and 10.2Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a constantly variable transmission (CVT) type automatic gearbox and the company's patented i3S (idle Stop-Start-System) for better efficiency. It is HMCL's first scooter to get the i3S technology which already comes with its commuter motorcycles like the Splendor and the Passion series.
The front suspension of the Hero Destini 125 is telescopic type forks and the rear one is a spring-loaded hydraulic shock absorber. Braking duties are handled by drum type brakes on both the front and the rear wheel.
