PUNE: BMW launched a new series of Gran Turismo in Pune at a base price tag of Rs 43.30 lakh. The luxury line of the car will carry a price tag of Rs 47.50 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
Locally produced at the BMW plant in Chennai, the new BMW 3 series Gran Turismo will be available in both petrol and diesel variants.
The vehicle will be available in Sport Line and Luxury Line design schemes.
The company is getting into the petrol variant as well after a ban on diesel luxury cars in Delhi last year rattled top carmakers.
The luxury car market in India is extremely small, at about 30,000-35,000 units a year. This is about 1% of the total car market in India. Frank Schloeder, President, BMW Group India said, "The challenge for us is to not only grow the market share in India but to grow the entire luxury car market in the country."
He said that the company will look to make the products in India more affordable by giving customers the option to insure the car against service and repairs for a longer time period.
The company said its sales has grown by 20% this year compared to last year.
