The WagonR has been on Indian streets for nearly two-decades and despite a new update, will continue to retain its predecessors’ boxy silhouette. Maruti’s ‘tall-boy’ is now wider by 125mm and has a wheelbase that is 35mm longer. Therefore, the

new WagonR

will be a little more spacious than the model it replaces, thanks to the ‘Heartect’ platform it now shares with the Swift, Baleno, Ertiga and Ignis. The hatchback is about 50-65kg lighter when compared the previous generation.

"I am sure, the all-new WagonR will become a preferred choice just not for families but also for young and dynamic buyers," MSI MD and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa told reporters.

In features terms, the 2019 WagonR gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, power adjustable and folding wing mirrors among other features.

The WagonR now has two engines on offer-- first being the 68PS, 1.0-litre petrol engine carried forward from its predecessor. The new option is the four-cylinder, 1.2-litre petrol engine that does duty on the Swift, Baleno and Ignis. It has a power output of 83PS and a peak torque of 113Nm. A five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) is offered with both engines.
