2018 Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe launched at Rs 2.55 crore

NEW DELHI: Mercedes has launched the 2018 model of its S 63 Coupe in India at a starting price of Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom). The new S 63 replaces the previous 5.5-litre V8 engine with a new 4.0-litre bi-turbo powertrain, capable of churning out 611PS of power and a peak torque of 900Nm, the automaker said. Mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, the new mill delivers 28PS more power than its predecessor, it added.The new engine also gets a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down the fuel and air supply to some of the cylinders when it detects the car is cruising. It helps to limit the power output while enhancing the overall fuel efficiency of the car.The two-door S 63 Coupe gets a new-design front thanks to the Panamericana grille and larger air intakes. The updated rear gets a diffuser insert at the bottom and quad exhausts. And, the car stands on 19-inch alloy wheels.
According to Mercedes-Benz, customers can further customise the new S 63 with its new 'designo' individualisation selections.Inside the vehicle, the two-door coupe features Nappa leather seats with AMG badging on the steering wheel as well as on the front and rear-seat backrests.It also gets a multi-purpose 12.3-inch TFT (Thin Film Transistor) widescreen colour display that showcases information about engine output and torque, individual tyre pressures and temperatures along with engine and transmission oil temperature."From the range starting 43 AMG, the 45 AMG to the top of the order 63 AMGs and the GT range, we have a wide array of AMG offering for our patrons. Also, with 7 unique AMG Performance Centers spread across key AMG markets, Mercedes-AMG has an unsurpassable market presence", said Michael Jopp, VP Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India.Mercedes-Benz India now offers 15 AMG models in the country. The new S 63 AMG will compete against the likes of the Audi R8, Porsche Panamera Turbo, Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
