MG Windsor EV sales cross 65k units: 70% come from non metros!
EV adoption in India is no longer limited to big cities, and the latest sales data from JSW MG Motor India clearly reflects this shift. The company has announced that its popular electric car, the MG Windsor EV, has crossed cumulative sales of over 65,000 units, with a significant 70 per cent of demand coming from non-metro markets.
According to the carmaker, metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai together account for just 30 per cent of total Windsor sales, while the remaining 70 per cent comes from smaller cities and towns. This marks a major change in EV buying trends, which were earlier concentrated in urban centres due to limited awareness and infrastructure.
In terms of powertrain specs, the Windsor EV makes 136 hp of power and 200 Nm of torque, and is offered with two battery options. The standard version comes with a 38 kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of 332 km, while the larger 52.9 kWh pack in the Pro variant delivers up to 449 km on a single charge. The model is also available with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, starting at Rs 9.99 lakh plus Rs 3.9 per km.
The company is now looking to further strengthen its presence in these markets. The company currently has a network of 541 sales and service outlets across India. Only 51 of these are in the four metros. MG plans to expand awareness and customer engagement efforts in smaller cities. It also aims to build on its EV momentum, having sold close to one lakh electric vehicles between October 2024 and February 2026, including models like the Comet and ZS EV.
Looking ahead, the company has outlined plans to introduce four new models this year, including a plug-in hybrid SUV.
