Skoda has revealed a brand-new electric vehicle concept called VISION 7S, which basically previews a 7-seat electric family car that will go on sale in the next few years' time. The VISION 7S also reveals the brand's new design language going forward, including the new logo that can be seen placed on the hood.
At the front, the VISION 7S concept features what Skoda calls a "Tech-Deck Face", which includes a flatter, wider yet overall smaller radiator grille, with its ribs replaced by dark glass that covers the car’s sensors. Skoda says the new front-end features a more refined aerodynamic shape than before.
The car is equipped with new T-shaped LED headlamps as well as tail lights. The headlights are complemented at the front by an ambient light strip that stretches across the entire width of the vehicle. The illuminated Skoda lettering, a part of the new logo and the company's new visual identity, is placed on the front and the rear.
The Skoda VISION 7S is equipped with an 89 kWh battery that gives the car a range of over 600 km per charge in the WLTP cycle. The concept car has a maximum supported charging power of just under 200 kW.
On the inside, the VISION 7S gets a 14.6-inch touchscreen - the largest ever installed in a Skoda car, along with an 8.8-inch display and a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel with a flattened top and bottom. There’s also an augmented-reality head-up display. The lower spoke of the steering wheel incorporates a touchpad that can be used to control some functions when the car is stationary.
As standard, the infotainment screen is positioned in portrait mode. However, if you switch from Drive mode to Relax mode, the screen and dashboard slide further away from the occupants and the display is rotated to landscape, for watching movies and TV shows, for example. To give rear seat passengers a good view of the screen, the driver’s and passenger’s seats swivel inwards and recline. The seats in the second row also recline as the Relax mode is activated.
Featuring the Explorer Green metallic matte colour, the VISION 7S is the first ŠKODA to be painted in a matte finish. Skoda claims that the entire interior of the car is trimmed with sustainable and durable materials. The floor and boot are made entirely of recycled-tyre veneer, while the upper part of the dashboard is finished in dark faux leather. Moreover, the lower parts are trimmed in lighter artificial leather that echoes the exterior body colour.
Skoda plans to launch a total of three electric vehicles by 2026, including a production version of the VISION 7S, a compact SUV and a small car. Skoda says that by 2030, it wants to achieve a share of over 70% of all-electric models in Europe. Moreover, the company has also revealed that it will introduce new-gen versions of the Superb and Kodiaq in the second half of next year, followed by an updated Octavia in 2024.
