Chinese EV maker Nio recently debuted its EC7 flagship SUV as the world’s most aerodynamic vehicle in its category, at the 2022 Nio Day held in Hefei, China. The EV maker claims the EC7 crossover SUV has an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.23 CD, this makes it more aerodynamic than the Tesla Model X which has a 0.25 CD rating and the 2022 Toyota Prius with a 0.27 CD rating.
Much of the drag efficiency can be attributed to the EC7’s sloping roofline and long overhangs.
In terms of dimensions, the Nio EC7 sits 4,968 mm in length, 1,974 mm in width and 1,714 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. The electric vehicle even gets a powered rear spoiler to increase downforce at higher speeds. Overall, the EC7’s aerodynamics help it achieve a claimed 940 km (CLTC) range in the top-end variant which comes with a 150 kWh battery pack. Smaller, 70 and 100 kWh battery packs will also be offered for the EC7, with claimed range figures of around 500 km (CLTC) on a full charge.

The top-end EC7 further gets an AWD dual-motor system that delivers a peak power of 643 hp and 850 Nm of torque. To stop all that silent momentum, Nio has given the EC7 380 mm Brembo 6-piston callipers with vented brake discs. The EV also gets 10 driving modes which include trailer, sport+, snow and more. Driving modes also reveal that the EC7 gets ride height adjustment.
The EC7 further gets Nio’s full-stack autonomous driving capability. In terms of hardware, the EC7 is loaded with Nio's Aquila suite that consists of 33 precision long-range sensors, seven 8MP HD cameras, four 3MP enhanced cameras for 360 view, 5mm wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and V2X.
The flagship electric SUV has been priced at CYN 478,000 or Rs 56.73 lakh approximately. It is expected to be launched in European markets in the second half of 2023.
