We know that MG is coming with a new affordable electric vehicle for the Indian market. This compact vehicle has been given the name Comet. After seeing some spy shots of the vehicle on the road and getting an official glimpse of the interior, we now have even more information about the EV, including an image of what the front seats might look like. In a unique collaborative effort, MG Motor India has joined hands with Naman Mehta, popularly known as MortaL to work on the upcoming Comet EV. MortaL became famous for playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Mobile (PUBG Mobile). He is one of the leading gamers in the country and even has his own team that goes by the name SouL. He has been tasked with designing the vehicle and giving it a more youthful flavour that would attract the ‘gaming community, tech-savvy groups, travel junkies, gadget geeks’.MortaL explained that he looked at the gaming controller and gaming chair for inspiration. We did get a glimpse of the steering wheel of the Comet recently and while the physical design and button layout remains the same, the colour pallet is rather different. Similarly, the front seat of the car has been designed to look like an expensive and ergonomic gaming chair. Also, since no modern gaming computer is complete without RGB lights, the MG Comet’s cabin will also be illuminated with ambient lighting. The renders shared by MG give us our first look at the front seats of the Comet EV. This gamer-inspired version seems to have a dark colour scheme with a lot of patterns and textures on it. While the regular version of the vehicle might have a more subtle fabric overlay on the seats, the fixed head restraints will probably be shared among the two.

MG vehicles usually fall under the vision of CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric) and the Comet is no different. While it is obvious that the Comet is an electric vehicle, Gaurav Gupta did mention that it might also adopt two or three more aspects of CASE. What this means is that the Comet EV will most likely also come with connected car technology as is the case with most vehicles these days. It is still unclear whether the vehicle born out of this collaborative move will be a variant of a limited edition model. MG is still deciding on where they would like to take the venture and how far they can push the bounds of creativity.During the conference, Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India also shared some interesting results from a research the company conducted. He mentioned that 88 per cent of the consumers that they spoke to, drove around 30 km on average per day. Apart from that, the study also revealed that 71 per cent of the people either travelled alone or with one other person most of the time. Parking space is also a huge concern for a lot of buyers with 64 per cent people saying that they either do not take their cars out or change plans depending on parking availability. For all these reasons, MG believes that the Comet is going to be the way forward for the mobility scene in India. Being a compact vehicle, it can take away the worries of finding space and also fulfil the need to have a personal vehicle. Being an electric vehicle, the Comet is also going to be less harmful to the environment.
