Mercedes-Benz today launched the EQS 580 4Matic electric car in India at a starting price of Rs 1.55 crore (all India ex-showroom). This is the first locally-assembled luxury electric vehicle in the country with an ARAI-certified range and the 14th ‘Made in India’ Mercedes-Benz model. The EQS 580 joins the EQC and AMG EQS 53 electric vehicles in the company's lineup in India.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is powered by a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and has a four-motor setup. The car claims a range of up to 677 km (WLTP)| 857 km (ARAI-certified) which also makes it the longest range EV in the country. The EV boasts 523 hp and 856 Nm of torque and claims a 0-100 km/h 4.1 seconds. The EV can be charged for 300 km (WLTP) in 15 minutes using a fast-charging station.
Much like the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53, the EQS 580 EV gets a low-slung profile to help with its aerodynamics. It gets LED headlamps, frameless doors, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin boasts a long list of features, a highlight of which is the 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen - assimilation of three screens, including passenger display, central infotainment, and driver display. This is the largest in-car screen in the world. Other features include ambient lighting, massage seats, high-end Burmester sound system, among others.
The EQS boasts a EURO NCAP safety rating of 5 stars and comes equipped with nine airbags. Mercedes states that a favourable location has been chosen for the installation of the battery, in a crash-protected area in the underbody. The EV gets rear-axle steering with 10° steering angle adjustment, HEPA Filter, Dynamic Select, and Predictive Route Planning, among other features.
