Honda to introduce 10 electric motorcycles by 2025! Details explained
Honda today revealed its plan of introducing 10 electric motorcycles internationally by 2025. The company will accelerate the electrification of motorcycles, while continuing to advance ICE, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality for all motorcycles by the 2040s.
The two-wheeler manufacturer is planning to introduce flex-fuel models in the Indian market. Initially, it will introduce flex-fuel E20 means 20% ethanol models in 2023, followed by flex–fuel E100, 100% ethanol models by 2025.
Honda claims that it aims to reach 1 million electric motorcycle sales annually within the next five years. The brand also plans to sell 3.5 million electric motorcycles by 2030, which is approximately 15% of its total sales.
According to the official statement, Honda has plans to launch two commuter EV models between 2024-2025 in the Asian, European and Japanese markets. These electric models will come equipped with Honda’s swappable battery pack.
Witnessing the demand of EMs / EBs globally, Honda will be introducing five compact EM and EB models by 2024 in Asia, Europe, Japan and China.
Along with commuter EVs, Honda is actively working on electrifying the models in the “FUN” category. Based on its FUN EV platform currently under development, Honda will be launching three large-size Fun EVs in Japan, the U.S and Europe between 2024 and 2025.
Besides, the company will manufacture and implement electric motorcycle platforms, such as the battery, PCU and motor in the motorcycle. Honda has also plans to introduce battery sharing service in the Indian market by end-2022.
Moreover, the company is working on swappable batteries standardisation with a partner in India in line with the interoperability standards for swappable battery-powered EVs. In the first half of 2022, Honda partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to set up battery swapping stations in India at HP pumps.
On the top of it all, the brand is working on solid state batteries for its upcoming electric motorcycles. Additionally, Honda is also rigorously working on its electric moped and bicycle range with the Thai and Vietnamese postal service in the respective markets.
Honda might introduce such affordable electric vehicles in India as well witnessing the adequate demand.
