Nitin Gadkari unveils range of Volvo electric commercial vehicles at Excon 2023
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today unveiled a range of Volvo CE's electric commercial vehicles at Excon 2023 in India.
With the commercial launch of EC500 Electric, India’s first grid-connected electric excavator in the 50-ton class, Volvo CE pioneers a transition to zero-emission mining and construction machinery. Furthermore, the Volvo L120 Electric Wheel Loader has also been launched which caters to material handling at ports, mines, plants, and other construction sites, offering no tailpipe emissions and near-silent operations.
In addition to the existing EC55 electric, the Volvo EC80 Electric has been showcased as a near-production prototype, which will be used for urban construction and forestry. This commercial vehicle delivers superior performance with 6-8 hours of autonomy thanks to its bigger battery, says Volvo CE.
Developed and designed in India, the Volvo DD40 and PT220 electric compactors have also been showcased as technology concepts. The DD40 Electric Compactor features advanced instrumentation, zero-emission operation, and reliable charging, offering energy cost reductions of up to 50%, while the PT220 Electric is ideal for environmentally sensitive areas with strict emission regulations, ensuring cleaner and quieter construction operations, as per the official statement.
Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director of Volvo CE India said, “CII Excon 2023 is a crucial platform for demonstrating our unwavering commitment to shaping the future of construction. We stand at the forefront of an Indian earthmoving equipment market projected to reach a phenomenal 10-15% CAGR over the next five years. Our excavators, haulers, wheel loaders, and other equipment cater to a diverse range of sectors, including construction, mining, infrastructure development, and material handling.”
Additionally, Volvo CE also displayed the EC210D, the 20-ton excavator that demonstrates performance and productivity. Beyond electric innovation, Volvo CE is highlighting its commitment to supporting customer success with new-age service solutions which include Equipment as a Service, productivity, and uptime services.
