Tata Motors today has been awarded a CMVR Type Approval certificate for India’s first green Hydrogen fuel cell EV Bus for its Tata Starbus 4/12 FCEV and variants. ARAI Director Reji Mathai handed over the CRVR certificate to Rajendra Petkar, CTO of Tata Motors at an event.
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) shared this information on its Twitter handle. ARAI states that Tata Motors is the first OEM in India to receive a Type Approval certificate with full compliance for all notified provisions of CMVR.
Available in AC and non-AC variants, the Tata Starbus EV is a 4/12m low-floor electric bus with a spacious interior and modern features, such as charging ports and Wi-Fi for on-the-go connectivity. Featuring LED headlamps and interior lighting, the hydrogen fuel-cell-powered EV bus gets regenerative braking and Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
Powering the Tata Starbus EV is a 250 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering an impressive range of up to 200 km per charge. The electric motor generates a peak power of 329 hp. The Starbus EV has a top speed of 70-75 kmph, claims Tata Motors. The battery can be fully charged in 2-3 hours.
The Hydrogen fuel cell technology boasts around three times the efficiency of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE). Similar to a battery, a fuel cell produces electricity without the need for charging, generating power and water when supplied with hydrogen and oxygen fuel.
