Ashok Leyland marked its presence at the 2023 Auto Expo with the unveiling of seven commercial vehicles with varying powertrain solutions, including one fully electric vehicle, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, a hydrogen internal combustion engine, and more. "The range of our new clean-energy products, covering both the truck and bus segments, underscores our capability and readiness to lead the transformation in the road transportation sector," Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman, Ashok Leyland, said.
Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): Ashok Leyland's BOSS Battery Electric Vehicle runs on a Lithium-ion battery.
Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV): In the fuel cell, atmospheric oxygen along with hydrogen produce electricity, that powers the vehicle's motor and electronics. This vehicle uses a Lithium-ion battery, which can be plugged in for charging and allows a limited run time on electric only. This vehicle comes with a Leak Detection System.
Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle (H2-ICE): H2-ICEs are similar to conventional combustion engines and only a few tweaks convert them to run on hydrogen. This vehicle is equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System).

Liquefied Natural Gas Vehicle (LNG): An LNG vehicle works similarly to gasoline-powered vehicles with a spark-ignited internal combustion engine. The natural gas is super-cooled and cryogenically stored in liquid form in a tank mounted on the truck. LNG is typically preferred in heavy-duty vehicles to meet longer-range requirements.
Intercity Compressed natural gas bus (13.5 CNG bus): Ashok Leyland’s 13.5 m intercity CNG Bus (4X2), the longest bus in the segment, is powered by a turbocharged CNG Engine. In this vehicle, 1,500 litres (255 kg) of CNG fuel is stored in lightweight composite cylinders which are mounted over the frame and it has a range of approximately 1,000 km. The 13.5 m bus comes with a luggage space of 11 cubic meters, the highest among the CNG buses, and also offers 20% higher passenger capacity with 36 berths, which the company states is also the highest in the segment.
Bada Dost Xpress (Powered by compressed natural gas – CNG): Bada Dost Xpress is a mini passenger bus, designed to seat 12 passengers.
