Toyota Rumion based on Maruti Ertiga unveiled with Hycross-like grille

As a part of the global partnership between Toyota and Suzuki, a range of badge-engineered products have been launched in the country including Toyota Glanza, Urban Cruiser and Maruti Suzuki Invicto. Toyota will now borrow the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to rebadge it to sell it in the Indian market as the Rumion.




The rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will go on to become the most affordable MPV in Toyota Kirloskar Motor's line-up, slotting below the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross. It will be built by Maruti Suzuki and supplied to Toyota, just like the Baleno (for Glanza). That said, the new Toyota Rumion features some cosmetic changes over the donor car.

The biggest change is the new and larger front grille that seems inspired by the Innova MPV. The grille features a honeycomb pattern and is surrounded with chrome. The front bumper is also redesigned and features another chrome element on the lower portion. On the sides, the Rumion sports new seven-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, different from the alloys seen on the Ertiga.

The interior features the same dual-tone treatment as the Maruti Suzuki MPV, with the new Toyota emblem on the steering wheel being the only differentiator. That said, the equipment list has also been carried over, along with the three-row, seven-seat layout.




If it isn't obvious by now, Toyota is offering the Rumion with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that puts out 103 hp of maximum power and 137 Nm of peak torque, available with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed AT. The Toyota Rumion is available in three trim levels and five variants, namely V MT, G MT, S MT, V AT, S AT. A CNG option is also available with the Rumion.

The manual version has a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl, while the automatic is claimed to return a mileage of 20.11 kmpl. Pricing for the Toyota Rumion is yet to be revealed, but we expect it to be marginally more expensive than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga's corresponding variants. That said, the Ertiga is currently priced from Rs 8.64 lakh to Rs 13.08 lakh (ex-showroom).
