This year has been a boon for the automotive manufacturers as the car sales witnessed a significant YoY growth compared to May 2021. According to FADA, passenger vehicle sales saw a growth of 204% for May 2022 on YoY basis. Which are the highest-selling cars in India last month? Maruti Suzuki Wagon R


Maruti Suzuki Wagon R retains the top position with 16,814 unit sales last month as compared to 2,086 unit sales in May 2021 with a YoY growth of 706%. The Wagon R is available in two engine options - a 1.0-litre next-gen K-Series dual jet, dual VVT engine petrol and a 1.2-litre advanced K-series dual jet, dual VVT petrol.

Tata Nexon


The Tata Nexon sub-4-metre SUV registered 14,614 unit sales against 6,439 unit sales during the same period last year. The SUV reported a growth of 127% in May 2022 on YoY basis. Tata Motors has recently introduced the Nexon EV Max in the Indian market as the Nexon EV has been popular among Indian buyers.

Maruti Suzuki Swift


Maruti Suzuki Swift attained the third rank in terms of sales in India with 14,133 unit sales in May 2022 as compared to 7,005 unit sales in May 2021. The hatchback reported an overall YoY growth of 102%.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno


Maruti’s premium hatchback, Baleno reported 13,970 unit sales last month against 4,803 units in May 2021, thereby registering a YoY growth of 191%. The company has introduced the 2022 Maruti Baleno in February 2022 at a price of Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Alto


Maruti Suzuki Alto secures the fifth position with 12,933 unit sales last month against 3,220 unit sales in the month of May 2021. The hatchback registered a YoY growth of 302%. However, the demand for Alto dropped significantly owing to the rising demand for B-segment cars.
