Tata Harrier EV vs Mahindra XEV 9e: Entry-level variants compared
Tata Motors recently launched the much-awaited Tata Harrier EV SUV in the Indian market. This new SUV is the carmaker’s most powerful, technologically advanced, and feature-rich electric vehicle to date, It also marks the brand’s debut offering with an all-wheel-drive configuration. The Harrier EV competes directly with the Mahindra XUV 9e and also faces competition from the Hyundai Creta EV and the BYD Atto 3. In this article, let’s compare entry-level variants of the Harrier EV (Adventure) and Mahindra XEV 9e (Pack One) and see which car offers more features.

Comparing the variants and pricing first, the Harrier EV is available in three trims: Adventure, Fearless, and Empowered. As of now, Tata has revealed pricing only for the entry-level Adventure variant, which carries an introductory tag of Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The XEV 9e is offered in four variants - Pack One, Pack Two, Pack Three Select and Pack Three. The entry-level Pack One is priced at Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Harrier EV costs Rs 40,000 more than the Mahindra.

Taking about the Harrier EV first, the SUV gets LED projector headlights with fog lamps and LED DRLs, 18-inch wheels with aero covers, puddle lamps, and electric adjustable and folding ORVMs. Moving inside, it gets dual 10.25-inch digital screens for a touchscreen infotainment system and digital cluster, cruise control, wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control, inbuilt navigation, 4-speakers and two tweeters.
It also gets push to-start, front armrest, tilt/telescopic steering, connected car tech with OTA updates, drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport), Terrain modes (Normal, wet-rain, rough road), drift mode, regenerative braking, V2V and V2L capabilities. In terms of safety, it gets six airbags, a rear camera with rear parking sensors, ESC, ABS, electric parking brake, all-wheel-disc brakes, Hill descent control, traction control, TPMS and more.
Inside, the XEV 9e gets much larger 12.3-inch three digital screens - one for the instrument cluster, one infotainment screen and one for the passenger, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Automatic climate control, fabric seats, push-to-start, 4-speakers with two tweeters, front and rear armrest, reclining rear seats, connected car tech with OTA updates and tilt/telescopic steering wheel. Other features include drive modes (Default, Range, Everyday, Race), Snow mode, cruise control, boost mode and more.
Here the Mahindra XUV 9e holds a clear edge over the Harrier EV. It not only offers larger infotainment and driver displays but also includes a passenger-side screen as standard across all variants. Additionally, it also gets much more convenient wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whereas the Harrier EV gets a wired setup. Rear-seat comfort is also better in the XUV 9e, thanks to a reclining backrest and a rear armrest. The Harrier EV additionally gets drift mode with multiple terrain modes and also gets V2L and V2V capabilities. The XEV 9e on the other hand misses out on V2L and V2V, terrain mode, and drift mode, however, it gets snow mode and boost mode which misses out on Harrier EV.
Safety-wise, the XEV 9e has six airbags, a rear camera with sensors, an electric parking brake, TPMS, ESC and all-wheel disc brakes. In terms of safety, both SUVs offer similar foundational features. However, the Harrier. ev stands additionally get hill descent and ascent control, along with a traction control system.
