New Renault Duster vs Tata Sierra: Engine specs & pricing compared
The mid-size SUV space in India is heating up with the return of two familiar nameplates: the Renault Duster and the Tata Sierra. While both SUVs target similar buyers, they take slightly different approaches when it comes to engine options and pricing. Here’s a closer look at how they compare on paper.
The all-new Renault Duster makes its comeback built on the brand’s CMF-B platform. It comes with three powertrain options. The range starts with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100 hp and 160 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Moving up, there is a more powerful Turbo TCe 160 engine that delivers 163 hp and 280 Nm, offered with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Renault has also introduced a strong hybrid option with the Duster, branded as E-Tech 160. This setup combines a petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The company claims that the system can run in electric-only mode for up to 80 percent of city driving. Notably, unlike the previous generation, the new Duster does not get a diesel engine at launch.
On the other hand, the Tata Sierra offers a wider mix of petrol and diesel engine choices. The entry-level option is a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine producing 106 hp and 145 Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There is also a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol TGDi engine that puts out 160 hp and 255 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Sierra also gets a diesel option. Its 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine produces 118 hp and 260 Nm of torque and is offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.
In terms of pricing, the Renault Duster’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol manual variants are priced between Rs 10.29 lakh and Rs 13.19 lakh for pre-bookings, and Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 13.49 lakh under standard pricing. The more powerful 1.3-litre turbo variants, available with both manual and automatic gearboxes, are priced from Rs 12.69 lakh to Rs 18.09 lakh (pre-bookings) and Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 18.49 lakh in regular sale.
Pricing for the Tata Sierra starts at Rs 11.49 lakh for the petrol manual variants and goes up to Rs 16.79 lakh. The diesel range begins at Rs 12.99 lakh and extends up to Rs 21.29 lakh. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol automatic variant is priced between Rs 17.99 lakh and Rs 20.99 lakh.
