India’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki unveiled the Jimny 5-door SUV and Fronx Compact SUV at the Delhi Auto Expo. Both cars attracted lots of people and the bookings too started on the same day.

Within 44 days, the company said that it has received 20,000 bookings for the Jimny 5-door and 10,000 for Fronx compact SUV. The booking amount for the Jimny is set at 25,000 and Rs 11,000 for Fronx SUV. Interested individuals can book the cars online or by visiting their nearest dealership.


The company recently also confirmed that both cars will also be exported to Australian markets. The Jimny 5-door will be manufactured at the brand’s Gurgaon facility and the Fronx will be manufactured production plant in Gujarat.

Talking about the Jimny 5-door is the extended version of the 3-door version sold globally and measures 3,985mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,720mm in height. The SUV has a ground clearance of 210 mm, an approach angle of 36 degrees and a departure angle of 50 degrees.


Talking about the powertrain and gearbox, the SUV gets the same 1.5-litre, 4-cyl, NA petrol engine which also powers Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ciaz, XL6 and Eritiga. This engine puts out 105 bhp of power and 134 Nm of torque. Gearbox options include either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The SUV also gets Suzuki’s AllGrip 4x4 system with a manual transfer case and low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’.Talking about the Fronx, the Fronx compact SUV is based on Baleno. The compact SUV features the silhouette of the Baleno with the styling and stance of the Grand Vitara SUV.

The Fronx gets two engine options - a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, NA petrol with 89 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque. Another engine is the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with 100 bhp of power and 148 Nm of torque. Both engines come paired with either a manual or an automatic transmission.
