Mahindra Racing wins Monaco E-Prix after four-year wait: Details
Mahindra Racing secured its first Formula E victory since the 2021 London E-Prix after Nyck de Vries won the Monaco E-Prix on Saturday. The result also marked the team’s first win of the Gen3 era. De Vries started second on the grid after reaching the final stage of qualifying, where he narrowly lost out to Dan Ticktum. Earlier in the Duels, the Dutch driver had defeated António Félix da Costa and Mitch Evans to secure a front-row start.
During the race, de Vries remained close to race leader Ticktum in the opening laps before strategy and Attack Mode helped him move into contention. After making his PIT BOOST stop on Lap 15, he rejoined in 10th place and used Attack Mode to gain track position. De Vries took the lead on Lap 20 after overtaking Félix da Costa at Tabac. He then managed pressure from Evans and controlled the race through a late Full Course Yellow period to secure maximum points for Mahindra Racing.
Team-mate Edoardo Mortara endured a difficult race after starting 19th due to a mechanical issue in qualifying that could not be repaired under parc ferme regulations. Despite recovering into the top 10 during the race, Mortara suffered a late puncture and eventually finished 17th. The result moves de Vries to 11th in the Drivers’ Championship standings, while Mortara remains third overall. Mahindra Racing retained third place in the Teams’ Championship and reduced the gap to the leading teams after outscoring its rivals in Monaco.
Speaking after the race, de Vries said the victory was a special moment, particularly as Monaco is his home race, and described the result as an important reward for the team after a challenging start to the season. Mortara said his qualifying setback made the race difficult but added that the team showed strong pace throughout the weekend ahead of Sunday’s second Monaco E-Prix race. Mahindra Racing Team Principal and CEO Frederic Bertrand said the win was an important achievement for the team and highlighted the support received from India following the victory.
