Hyundai confirms new SUV launch in India: To rival Tata Punch
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) today officially confirmed the launch of an all-new SUV for the Indian market. Codenamed the Ai3, the upcoming sub-compact SUV will be based on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios platform. Ahead of its official launch soon, here is all you need to know about the Hyundai Ai3 sub-compact SUV. Read on.
Taking design cues from the Hyundai Casper (currently on sale in South Korea), the Ai3 comes equipped with a parametric front grille, circular projector headlamps and DRLs at the front. The side profile is flanked by 17-inch alloy wheels, squared wheel arches, plastic cladding and roof rails. At the rear, the Hyundai Ai3 is equipped with parametric tail lights.
Moving on to the interior, the Hyundai Ai3 will be equipped with a new-gen steering wheel, similar to the one seen in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV. Some key interior features of the Hyundai Ai3 will include a massive 42-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Blue Link connectivity, auto climate control, mood lighting, ventilated driver seat and a sunroof.
Mechanically, we expect the Hyundai Ai3 to be powered by the same 1.2L Kappa VTVT petrol engine that is currently doing duty on the Grand i10 Nios. The engine generates a peak power of 81.8 hp and a max torque of 113.8 Nm. That said, the fuel efficiency of the Ai3 is expected to be around 20.1 kmpl.
According to reports, the Hyundai Ai3 sub-compact SUV is to rival the likes of the Tata Punch in the Indian market. In terms of safety, the Ai3 might receive a few ADAS features like lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance and blind spot detection. With such safety features, the upcoming Hyundai SUV will become the most affordable car in India with ADAS. As far as the price is concerned, the Hyundai Ai3 price might start from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) based on the reports and the same has not been confirmed yet.
