Honda Cars India has announced that its entire range of vehicles is now E20-compliant, making them ready to run on 20 percent ethanol-blended petrol. The certification covers all current models, including the Honda Elevate, City, City e:HEV, and the newly-launched Amaze. Notably, the second-generation Amaze, which was still on sale in early 2025, also received E20 certification in January this year.
The company first introduced E20 material compatibility in its vehicles back in 2009, ensuring that all Honda cars produced in India since then could run on ethanol-blended fuel without requiring modifications. This means existing Honda owners can seamlessly switch to E20 fuel without concerns about durability or performance.
The move aligns with the Indian government’s push for cleaner fuels. As per new regulations, all gasoline-powered vehicles, including hybrids, manufactured from April 1, 2025, must be E20-certified to meet emission norms.
Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Honda Cars India, said, “At Honda, we have been preparing for this transition for years. Our cars have been E20-compatible since 2009, ensuring that our customers can adopt greener fuel without any modifications.”
With this update, Honda’s powertrains remain unchanged. The City and Elevate continue to be powered by 1.5-litre petrol motors. The new Amaze features a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine delivering 89 bhp and 110 Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic.
Additionally, the Honda City e:HEV hybrid combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, generating 125 bhp and 253 Nm of torque, mated to an e-CVT transmission.
