2026 Renault Duster vs Tata Sierra: Engine specs compared
Renault has finally reintroduced the Duster in India, unveiling the 2026 version of its popular SUV for the highly competitive midsize SUV segment. The new Duster will take on several rivals, including the Tata Sierra, a legendary nameplate that has also made a recent comeback. Here’s a closer look at the engine options and specifications of both SUVs.
The 2026 Renault Duster is built on Renault’s India-specific CMF-B platform. There are three engines on offer. At the top of the lineup is the Turbo TCe 160 engine. This turbo-petrol unit delivers 163 hp and 280 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Below this sits the Turbo TCe 100, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100 hp and 160 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Lastly, Renault has also offered a 1.8-litre strong hybrid petrol powertrain, branded as E-Tech 160. This setup combines a petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. According to Renault, the system is capable of running in electric-only mode for up to 80 percent of city driving. Notably, unlike the older Duster, the new generation does not offer a diesel engine at launch.
On the other hand, the Tata Sierra also has three engines on offer. The entry-level option is a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that produces 106 hp and 145 Nm of torque. It can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT.
The Sierra is also offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol TGDi engine. This unit puts out 160 hp and 255 Nm of torque and is paired exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Rounding off the lineup is a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, producing 118 hp and 260 Nm of torque. This powerplant is available with both 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.
