Days after the launch of the updated 2022 Baleno,
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has introduced an update for the WagonR. The compact hatchback is one of the most popular cars in the country, and the new update aims to make it more attractive. Pricing for the 2022 Maruti Suzuki WagonR starts from Rs 5.39 lakh, going all the way up to Rs 7.10 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).

In terms of design, the overall silhouette of the WagonR remains the same. However, Maruti Suzuki has made a few changes to make the car look fresher. The WagonR now gets dual-tone paint options on the top-end trim with a black roof and A-pillars, as well as a new set of alloy wheels. The new dual-tone colour options include i.e. Gallant Red with Black roof and Magma Grey with Black roof.
The new features on the 2022 WagonR include a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with smartphone navigation, four speakers and Idle Start Stop on the bigger engine. Other features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, manual AC, electrically operated ORVMs, all four power windows, keyless entry, and steering-mounted audio and Bluetooth controls.
The safety tech includes dual airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), front seat belts reminder, a high-speed alert system, and rear parking sensors - all of which are standard across the variant line-up. The automatic variant now also gets Hill Hold Assist feature, which prevents the vehicle from rolling back on inclined slopes and in stop-start traffic condition.
The 2022 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is being offered in five trim levels - LXI, VXI, ZXI, ZXI+, and a new Tour H3 variant that is exclusively been launched for the passenger taxi segment. The car is being offered with two engine options - a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol unit. The former puts out 67 PS power and 89 Nm torque, while the latter generates 90 PS and 113 Nm.
Both the engines can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission as well as an AGS auto. Maruti Suzuki is also offering a CNG option with the hatchback with the smaller engine, with the power and torque being slightly reduced to 57 PS and 82 Nm respectively. Maruti Suzuki claims that the the WagonR has a 16% higher fuel-efficiency of 25.19 km/l for the 1.0L VXI AGS variant and 19% higher fuel-efficiency of 24.43 km/l for 1.2L ZXI AGS variant over the outgoing model.
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR continues to rival the likes of Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago, as well as other similarly priced compact hatchbacks in the country.
