Suzuki Motorcycle India has been releasing teasers of a new motorcycle on its social media handles for four days now, with the latest teaser being released today with the caption "If your heart beats for adventure then discover the thrilling spots with none other than the master of adventure itself!" This surely hints at the fact that the new upcoming Suzuki motorcycle could be a brand-new adventure tourer.
The only ADV motorcycle in Suzuki's Indian portfolio is the V-Strom 650 XT, pricing for which starts from Rs 8.88 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). However, the adventure touring segment in the country now hosts a range of affordable options as demand for mass-market ADV bikes is growing by the day. Keeping in mind the market demand, the new Suzuki motorcycle could actually be an adventure tourer based on the same platform as the Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250.
We have ruled out the globally-available V-Strom 250 since the ADV uses a twin-cylinder engine, but no motorcycle in the quarter-litre segment in India is offered with a twin-cylinder motor as of now. The cost of replacing it with a new powertrain will also likely be relatively high. In contrast, the Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 come equipped with a 249 cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine that puts out 26.5 PS of maximum power and 22.2 Nm of peak torque, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox.
If Suzuki decides to introduce a new ADV bike on the same platform as the 250 cc Gixxers, the company could slightly retune the engine to suit the characteristics of the go-anywhere motorcycle. Since the teaser images so far reveal no motorcycle whatsoever, it is yet to be confirmed what Suzuki is actually up to. We expect the new motorcycle to be revealed in the coming days. Which new motorcycle do you think Suzuki is going to launch - a 250 cc ADV, or some other bike altogether? Let us know in the comments below.
