KTM 390 Duke, Adventure X big price hike: Here’s why & by how much
KTM 390 Duke and KTM 390 Adventure X have become significantly more expensive in India, with KTM revising prices across its popular 390 range. The latest update sees prices go up by as much as Rs 40,000, depending on the model.
The KTM 390 Adventure X has received a relatively moderate hike. It is now priced at Rs 3.43 lakh, ex-showroom, up from its earlier price of Rs 3.26 lakh, marking an increase of Rs 17,000. Since its initial launch at Rs 2.91 lakh, the motorcycle has undergone multiple revisions.
On the other hand, the KTM 390 Duke has witnessed a sharper jump in pricing. The streetfighter is now priced at Rs 3.39 lakh, ex-showroom, compared to its previous price of Rs 2.99 lakh. This translates to a steep Rs 40,000 increase in one go.
The primary reason behind this revision lies in the GST structure applicable to motorcycles with engine capacities above 350 cc. Until now, Bajaj Auto had been absorbing a part of this additional tax burden, effectively shielding customers from a sudden price jump. However, with the latest update, the company has passed on the full impact of the higher GST to buyers.
This move also widens the gap between KTM’s 390 range and its smaller-capacity offerings, such as the 250 Duke, where the price difference now exceeds Rs 1 lakh. Meanwhile, Triumph Motorcycles has recently introduced sub-350cc versions of its mid-capacity bikes in India. By downsizing the engines to fall under the 350cc threshold, these models benefit from a lower GST rate of 18 percent instead of 40 percent. It now remains to be seen whether KTM will adopt a similar strategy.
