KTM has expanded its portfolio in India with the launch of the new 390 Adventure R. The model sits between the 390 Adventure X and the standard 390 Adventure, and goes against the likes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. Here’s a quick look at how these two models stack up against each other.
Powering the KTM 390 Adventure R is a 398.7cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 46 hp and 39 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and comes loaded with electronics, including cornering ABS, cornering traction control and dedicated off-road riding modes.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 uses a larger 451.65cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It produces 40.02 hp and 40 Nm of torque. This motor comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch.
The KTM 390 Adventure R features WP Apex suspension setup with 230 mm of travel at both ends. The model’s seat height stands at a tall 870 mm, while ground clearance is rated at 272 mm.
The Himalayan 450 gets USD Showa forks at the front and a linkage-type monoshock at the rear, both offering 200 mm of travel. Ground clearance is rated at 230 mm, making it more accessible than the KTM for shorter riders.
Braking duties on the KTM 390 Adventure R are handled by disc brakes (320 mm front, 240 mm rear) with dual-channel ABS. The Himalayan 450, on the other hand, uses a 320 mm front disc and a 270 mm rear disc, paired with dual-channel ABS.
In terms of features, the KTM 390 Adventure R gets a 5-inch full-colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity via KTMconnect. It supports calls, music, turn-by-turn navigation and also includes a USB Type-C charging port.
The Himalayan 450 comes with a 4-inch round TFT display offering phone connectivity, full Google Maps-based navigation and media controls, along with full LED lighting.
The 390 Adventure R is priced at Rs 3.77 lakh, ex-showroom, while the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 comes at a starting price of Rs 3.05 lakh, ex-showroom.
