NEW DELHI: Honda two-wheelers is setting foot in the entry-level, adventure-touring segment with the

CB200X

. At Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom), the CB is roughly Rs 25,000 expensive over its nearest competitor Hero XPulse 200, and Rs 15,000 over

Hornet 2.0

with which the parts sharing is in plenty.

The CB200X will be available from mid-September onwards in Honda’s redwing dealerships. CB500X to Africa Twin, Honda is known bigger, bulky and capable off-road machines. The CB200X will not be as potent as the heavyweights, yet speak of design and looks, it has got what it takes to dominate road presence.




The front-heavy fairing is ADV-inspired, where you find the housing for a sharp-looking LED unit. The blinkers integrated with the knuckle guards in a smart touch. The single-unit seat is stepped and the aesthetics are beefed up by the chunky grab rails and X-shaped LED taillights. The reverse-LCD is concise, well-illuminated and info-packed. Considering this motorcycle will be used for off-road weekend excursions, the company should have considers turn-by-turn navigation as an option.

Under the skin, the bones are identical between Hornet 2.0 and CB200X. The 184.4-cc engine and 5-speed transmission are shared. From diamond-type frame to upside-down front forks and mono shock, the two motorcycles can be called identical twins. Anchoring duties are sharpened by dual discs with single-channel ABS.

The seat height and kerb weight are manageable at 810 mm and 147 kilos. For reference, planting the feet in street-avatar Hornet 2.0 is slightly easier, thanks to 795 mm with a kerb weight of 142 kilos. The handlebar is also lifted using pivots to match the off-road-centric appearance. The 17-inch alloy rims are the same in the two, but the rear block pattern on the CB200X is engineered slightly to go off-road. We will get to experience all that and more very soon.
