Considering the popularity of compact cars in India, the boot space is something that is often neglected. Having a decent-sized trunk could be beneficial if you plan to take your car for a long trip or a journey. But can you have a car with a large boot space even if you're on a tight budget?

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz - 510 litres
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gets the highest boot-space for a car priced under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
With a 510-litre boot, the Ciaz could be a great choice for long road trips and journeys. Retailed through Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa dealerships, the Ciaz is currently priced from Rs 8.99 lakh to Rs 11.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powering the sedan is a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine that produces 105 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque. The transmission options on offer include a 5-speed MT and an optional 4-speed AT. On the feature front, the Ciaz gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, auto climate control, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, cruise control and so on.
Honda City 4th-gen - 510 litres

The previous-gen Honda City continues to be sold alongside the newer City for the time being, and its starting price of Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom) qualifies it to be on this list. The 4th-gen City has a boot space of 510 litres - the same as the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

The sedan is offered with a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that produces 119 PS of max power and 145 NM of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. On the feature front, the last-gen City gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a height-adjustable driver's seat, auto climate control, electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear-view camera etc.

Another Honda sedan with a big boot space, the Amaze's 420-litre trunk capacity is actually the highest in the sub-compact sedan segment. It's also the highest for any car in India that measures up to 4 metres in length. That said, pricing for the Amaze starts from Rs 6.63 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Amaze can be had with two engines: a 1.2-litre petrol engine rated at 90 PS/110 Nm, or a 1.5-litre diesel unit that makes 100 PS and 200 Nm (80 PS/160 Nm with CVT). Both engines can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an optional CVT auto.
Tata Tigor - 419 litres
The Tata Tigor is currently priced from Rs 6.10 lakh to Rs 8.84 lakh (ex-showroom), and gets a 419-litre boot space. The sedan is available with a sole a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine making 86 PS and 113 Nm, paired with a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. Moreover, Tata also offers the Tigor with a factory-fit CNG kite, however, that would result in a compromise on boot space.

It gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, push-button start/stop, keyless entry, auto AC, a digital instrument cluster, dual frontal airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and more.
Renault Kiger - 405 litres
The Renault Kiger is the only SUV to be on this list, thanks to its large 405-litre boot capacity which is the highest in the segment. Renault retails the Kiger at a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh that goes all the way up to Rs 10.62 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom) for the top-end trim.

The sub-compact SUV can be had with either a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 72 PS and 96 Nm, or a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100 PS power and 160 Nm torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed MT (standard), a 5-speed AMT (1.0-litre NA petrol) and a CVT (1.0-litre turbo petrol).
