MUMBAI: Oriental Insurance Company have some payouts ahead of them. Both the two ODIs against Australia at Kochi and Goa, which were washed out were fully insured.
The first one for Rs 7.5 crores and the other for Rs 6. Usually about 80 per cent of the insured sum is paid out if not a ball is bowled.
Leander Dias, administrative manager of Oriental, said on Wednesday, "We consider it a national service. I have just returned from Kochi where we met the secretary TC Mathew and worked out the details."
This will be the third payout for Oriental in recent times after the Mumbai-Australia ODI at DY Patil Stadium last year.
"We have paid out Rs one crore of Rs 6 crores to the MCA for refund of tickets. They have to send the details and we will work things out on Thursday," said Dias who said there was a coincidence that both the stadia at Kochi and Goa were named after Pandit Nehru, the bankers were Federal bank for both and insurers were Oriental.
The biggest ODI insured has been the India-Pakistan match at Jaipur for Rs 12 crore. There was an occasion in 2000 when the India-Pakistan match at Chennai wasn't insured for a single paise.
