India’s 5 most revered temples for Kaal Sarp Nirvan rituals

Kaal Sarp Dosh is believed to be one of the most feared astrological conditions, which arises when all planets are trapped between the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu. This belief as per astrology, and prominent astrologers, is therefore much dreaded. Many followers seek treatments since it is thought to cause problems in marriage, finances, mental stability, career flow, and general peace. The negative consequences of Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran are thought to be mitigated by conducting it at spiritually charged temples, particularly on important Kaal Sarp Yog dates. There are also temples where sacred chants and age-old rituals combine to purify the aura, relieve karmic weights, and bring one's life path back into balance.

2/6

Trimbakeshwar Temple, Maharashtra

It's one of the country's most important places for Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran. As a Jyotirlinga dedicated to Lord Shiva and located near the origin of the Godavari River, it has long been associated with powerful astrological and spiritual remedies. The temple offers structured Kaal Sarp pujas, which are performed by priests who specialise in horoscope-based rituals. Many pilgrims prefer Trimbakeshwar because the ceremonies here follow a fixed, traditional pattern passed down through generations.

3/6

Kukke Subramanya Temple, Karnataka

It's also one of the revered temples, which serves as the seat of Lord Subramanya, believed to be the protector of serpents. This temple is especially famous for rituals like Sarpa Samskara and Ashlesha Bali, which are performed to appease serpent deities and remove doshas connected to Rahu and Ketu. The setting amid Western Ghats forests adds to the temple’s mystique. Devotees often stay for a full day as the rituals take place in multiple stages under the guidance of temple-authorised priests.

4/6

Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh)

As one of the prominent Jyotirlingas, Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain is, therefore, a major destination for astrological remedies. The city itself has deep connections with Hindu astronomy and sacred geography. Here, Kaal Sarp Dosh Shanti pujas are conducted based on the devotee’s horoscope, often on specific days like Amavasya or during Shravan. The temple’s dakshinmukhi (south-facing) Shiva idol is considered especially potent for rituals meant to dissolve karmic obstacles.

5/6

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, near Dwarka (Gujarat)

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga has long been linked with serpent symbolism, making it a significant place for those seeking relief from serpent-related planetary doshas. The shrine’s legends describe Shiva protecting devotees from serpentine dangers, which forms the basis for its association with Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran. Pilgrims usually perform special offerings such as symbolic serpent idols made of silver, followed by a personalised puja based on their astrological alignment.

6/6

Aundha Nagnath Temple, Hingoli

Aundha Nagnath is believed by many traditions to be an ancient Jyotirlinga site and is closely associated with Shiva’s “Lord of Serpents” aspect. This link makes it a significant destination for removing Sarpa-related doshas. Compared to more crowded shrines, Aundha Nagnath offers a quieter setting where priests conduct Kaal Sarp rituals rooted in regional traditions. Devotees often choose this temple for its spiritual intensity and relatively peaceful atmosphere.
