What are the 4 realms of spiritual world
The spiritual world, as per the Vedic philosophy, comprises four progressive realms: Bhur Loka, Bhuvar Loka, Svar Loka, and Mahar Loka. These realms represent ascending planes of consciousness from gross matter to the divine intuition, as mentioned in the ancient texts like the Upanishads and Puranas. It is believed that these lokas guide the soul's journey through subtle energies that are accessible through intense meditation and sadhana, mirroring practices at sacred sites like Kamakhya for Shakti awakening.
As per the ancient texts and scriptures, the spiritual world is often described in esoteric traditions like Tantra, Hinduism, and mysticism as it encompasses realms beyond the physical plane that serve as stages of conscious evolution towards divine union. Here are four realms; read on to know more…
Bhur Loka
The Physical Realm, also known as the Bhur Loka or the Human Realm. This realm represents the dense and strong material planet that has earth-bound existence that encompasses human life, their nature, and sensory experiences. It is also known as the human realm, as it is tied to the element earth; and is believe the starting point for spiritual journeys, where karma accumulates through actions; souls here grapple with duality, desire, and survival, as seen in daily struggles and temple rituals like those at Kamakhya for grounding Shakti energy.
Bhuvar Loka
Bhuvar Loka, also known as the Astral Realm or Vital Realm. It is believed that the intermediate astral plane between earth and heavens vibrates with prana (life force) and subtle emotions and is also the home to ancestors (pitris), nature spirits, and lower devas. This realm can be accessed through meditation or near-death visions. In fact, it is believed that this realm governs dreams, desires, and psychic phenomena.
Svar Loka: Celestial Realm
Svar Loka, also known as the luminous and heavenly realm of light and bliss that houses higher beings like devas such as Lord Indra and divine councils, is fueled by the solar plexus's inner fire. Souls attain it through virtue and devotion, experiencing joy and happiness.
Mahar Loka: Intuitive/Divine Realm
Mahar Loka, one of the highest of these four, is the realm of pure intuition, rishis, and unmanifest truth. It is believed that this realm ensures where ego dissolves into the cosmic mind beyond duality. It is believed to be accessed by advanced yogis through samadhi; it bridges to ultimate Brahman; in Tantric views linked to Kamakhya, it embodies Shiva-Shakti's eternal union, drawing devotees upward from earthly origins.
