Afterwards, burn the chillies and lemon in a fire or on a stove. The pungent smell that follows is believed to signify the negativity leaving. It’s also believed that no one should touch the ashes afterwards, as they are thought to carry the absorbed negative energy.

If you’re looking for a different approach, some people prefer using an egg. Yes, an egg! This is a common practice in Latin American cultures known as “limpia,” or spiritual cleansing. The ritual involves gently rolling an egg over the person’s body while saying a prayer or setting an intention to remove negative energy. The egg is believed to absorb the negativity. Once done, crack the egg into a glass of water. Some people even believe the patterns formed in the egg can reveal how much negativity was surrounding the person.
