UJJAIN: Ujjain district SP Anurag and ASP Gaurav Tiwari have been accused of misusing their post to favour BJP candidate. Allegations are levelled by none other the wife of a police station in charge here and a complaint has been forwarded to the Election Commission (EC) to remove the two for fair election. The TI has been suspended.
The issue is related to filing of nomination papers by Satish Malviya as BJP candidate from Ghatia seat against whom a permanent arrest warrant was pending for five years.
Satish filed papers on November 7, the day he was on the run.
He was booked at Kotwali police station under sections 353, 332, 294 and 506 of the IPC for misbehaving with a cop in 2007. A JMFC court had issued arrest warrant against Malviya in 2008 after the police 'failed' to arrest him.
Malviya on November 11, four days after filing nomination, surrendered at the court and was granted bail. The SP issued show-cause notice to Kotwali police station in charge Yogendra Yadav seeking explanation r why the accused was not arrested earlier despite regular instructions and reviews on the matter.
This led Yadav's wife Babita file a complaint with the EC on Wednesday arguing that her husband was on leave from November 7 to 10 with SP's prior permission. During leave, ASP (City) Gaurav Tiwari called my husband on mobile and talked about the issue and when my husband asked whether to send team to get Malviya arrested, ASP asked to wait, Babita mentioned in her letter.
"On November 10 after joining the duty, the TI again called the ASP when he was suggested Malviya would get bail from the court by tomorrow and need not to be arrested," she claimed. She alleged that when the issue came under public glare, the SP issued a show-cause notice to her husband. The letter was dated November 8, but actually it was issued on November 12, she claimed.
The reality of 'back dated' letter could be gauged from the fact that if it was issued on November 8 why the SP did not get Malviya arrested despite lapsing of three days before he secured bail on November 11, she questioned.
My husband was being made scapegoat after exposure of SP's act of favouring the BJP candidate, she said.
The SP has suspended Yadav for dereliction in duty. Anurag said the TI went on leave on Wednesday evening without informing higher-ups despite order not to do so in view of Moharram and elections.
He has been suspended over the issue and it has nothing to do with Satish Malviya's episode, he asserted, adding that Yadav's wife was making false allegations.
