UJJAIN: Nothing would have been as humiliating for Congress in MP assembly elections defeat as one its firebrand MLAs Kalpana Parulekar gets her deposit forfeited after she polled 7058 votes finishing third in Mahidpur. The Congress rebel Dinesh Jain Bose stood second but had polled 50462 votes against the BJP's winning candidate Bhadursingh Chouhan figure of 71096 votes.
Parulekar had been in controversies. She had faced a lot of opposition while getting the ticket, but could manage one for her in the second list.
Not winning even a single seat in Ujjain district is not new for the Congress but it was for the first time that BJP bagged all seven seats here.
The BJP under the leadership of Uma Bharti had got six seats in 2003 here when it managed to cash in anger against 10 year rule of Digvijay Singh but even at that time Dilip Gurjar retained his Nagda seat as independent but after 10 years, Shivraj got even stronger mandate with 7-0.
MP minister Paras Jain registered thumping win in Ujjain North by a margin of 24849 votes against Vivek Yadav of the Congress who is said to get ticket under
Rahul Gandhi's formula to promote Youth Congress leaders. MP Tourism chairman Mohan Yadav also won from Ujjain South seat but his margin is least in the district. The BJP had denied tickets to four sitting MLAs and instead put fresh faces whereas repeated two defeated candidates and this thinking proved effective.
New faces Anil Firojia, Mukesh Pandya and Satish Malviya won by comfortable margin of 13 to 16 thousand votes in Tarana, Barnagar and Ghatia respectively.
