RAIPUR: Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu said on Monday that those leveling 'snooping' charges to target party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, were now 'weeping' after their debacle in the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.
"They were crying, snooping, snooping and now the Congressmen are 'weeping'", he said while addressing the newly elected 49-member Chhattisgarh BJP legislature party, which met here to elect its new leader.
Without elaborating the Gujarat controversy over alleged snooping of a woman by the state police, he said these all were false allegations aimed at discrediting the BJP leaders.
Claiming that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and even the Prime Minister had indulged in misinformation during the campaigning, Naidu said now the Congress has suffered its worst ever defeat in the assembly polls in these four states. Quoting figures, he argued that even during post-emergency elections in 1977, the grand old party did not face such a defeat.
"Congress is facing the worst patch. It is unable to name a leader, who can now match the stature of Narendra Modi," he said adding that there was a strong current in the country against the Congress and in favour of the BJP.
"Now TINA-There is no alternative factor-working in favour of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi," he claimed adding that his party, under his leadership, is all set to win the Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held early next year.
Naidu said the BJP had secured 77% of the total seats in four states that went to assembly polls while the Congress managed only 21% seats.
Congratulating Raman Singh for leading the party to a third victory, the BJP vice-president said Singh and his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan had achieved this feat in the current politically difficult times when many factors, including caste, creed, religion and other social issues, comes into play in the election. "BJP government's commitment towards development and welfare of masses weighed over such issues. Hence, I consider that our government in Chhattisgarh and MP won on a positive vote," he added.
