Google's VR Cardboard Camera app comes to iPhones
Tech giant Google has finally rolled out its Cardboard Camera app for iOS devices. The app will allow the users to capture 360-degree virtual reality images, which can be viewed on the smartphone using the Google Cardboard or other VR headsets. Launched last year, the app was so far an Android exclusive.
The app called Cardboard Camera app can be downloaded from the App store. The photographs taken by the app can be shared via links. Cardbaord Camera will generate a link can be emailed, messaged, or posted in apps and on the web.
According to Google’s blogpost, “VR photos are three-dimensional panoramas, with slightly different views for each eye, so near things look near and far things look far. You can look around to explore the image in all directions, and even record sound with your photo to hear the moment exactly as it happened.”
To capture a VR photo, users just need to hold their phones vertically and tap on the record button and then turn around as if they are taking a panorama shot.
The app reportedly works similar to Google's Photo Spheres, except that users are limited to panoramic photos, which is the area above or below their sight line is not be captured.
Google is likely to reveal more information about its new Android-based VR platform DayDream at an event on October 4.
