, which will automatically identify if the incoming call is likely to be a spam or not.

With this update, Google Phone app users will not only recognise a spma call, but would also be able to block and report the particular number. However, for now, the feature will only be available on Nexus and Android One smartphones.

“Spam callers be gone! Today, we’re beginning to update your Google Phone app with spam protection on #Nexus and #AndroidOne devices to warn you about potential spam callers and give you the ability to block and report these numbers. If you already have

Caller ID

turned on, spam protection will be available on your phone once your app updates to the latest version,” said Google on a Google+ post.

The feature seems similar to the core offering of the TrueCaller app. The app’s most popular feature is ‘spam detection’. Other than this, TrueCaller also provides IDs of the incoming calls that are said to be crowdsourced from its users.

In March, TrueCaller announced a slew of new features like Smart Call History, Availability, and a brand new dialler.

Smart Call History replaces unknown numbers with real names and faces in users’ call history, even for numbers that are not saved in their contacts. The Availability feature shows if your ‘friends’ and ‘contacts’ are busy on another call.
