“It was absolutely shocking for me when I came to know about the rape allegations on Alok Nath,” said actress
Renuka Shahane talking to Pune Times. Renuka had worked with
Alok Nath for her block buster film Hum Aapke Hai Kaun as well the series Imtihaan. However, she says she did not know him outside work.
“I was not a party person. I went straight home from the sets. But maybe when they hang out outside work, people let their hair down.
And if someone can become so different in such a case, it is very terrible,” says the actress. Renuka further says that this is all a tip of the ice berg and like Pandora’s box, more instances will start coming up now. “Women in Bollywood and media are becoming the first ones to speak. But obviously such instances must be happening in other fields as well. Moreover, although we have laws and Vishakha guidelines in place, they are not always followed,” she says.
It was not just the rape allegations on Alok Nath, but the allegations on
Vikas Bahl and Utsav Chakroborty also were unexpected. Vikas Bahl was accused of sexual harassment by actresses
Kangana Ranaut, Nayani Dixit among others in the team, while Utsav was accused of sending pictures of his private parts to women.
“Vikas Bhal films are known to be respectful of women. And then behaving in such a way, it is shocking. As far as Utsav Chakroborty is concerned, he is from the present generation which is more towards equality. It is so sick to hear of such things from them,” she says.
