Sun TV singled out unjustly: Kalanithi Maran
The union home ministry had refused security clearance to 33 TV channels of the Kalanithi Maran-run Sun TV group a few days ago. The Group's chairman and managing director Kalanithi Maran has written to finance and I&B minister Arun Jaitley complaining that his company was being unjustly singled out such action.
It is being reported that Maran wrote to Jaitley that every media house in the country is under investigation under various authorities.
He is said to have written in his letter that there are are several TV companies, including those controlled by big business conglomerates which have pending cases in the corporate espionage at the ministry of petroleum, some with pending cases of 2G spectrum and those accused in cases of disproportionate assets. But their security clearance have not been revoked."
It is further being reported that, Maran stated thathe is extremely worried about the recent developments, Maran has said that the matter involving Sun Direct Private Ltd - one of the reasons stated by the MHA for denying security clearance to the company, was is in preliminary stages and that if any penal action like denial of license to Sun Network were to instituted at this stage, it will be a grave miscarriage of justice and will go against the well accepted legal axiom of "one is presumed innocent till proved guilty.
It's unlikely that the channels will go off air. A decision on whether to seek a review or suspend the group's licenses will be taken by I&B minister Arun Jaitley. The stock price of Sun TV Network crashed over 25% in early trading on Monday on fears that the government may ban the company from broadcasting its 33 television channels. At 10.55am, the stock on BSE was down Rs 91 at Rs 266.
