SHILLONG: Bangladesh has stepped up operations against Indian insurgent outfits holed up in its territory, a top security official said. “Tremendous operations are going on even today in Bangladesh,” BSF IG (Meghalaya Frontier) Sudesh Kumar told TOI here on Friday. Kumar said Indian insurgents are also in league with fundamentalist elements in Bangladesh. “For them (Bangladesh) too, criminals will be criminals,” he added. The top BSF official said most of the operations against Indian insurgents are going on in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and Mynmensingh district of Bangladesh. He revealed that the BSF and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) are "sharing" information on "floating militant groups" in Bangladesh.Close on the heels of the Indian Army’s Myanmar operation, the BSF gave the BGB a list of 39 hideouts of Indian insurgent outfits in Bangladesh. This was done during the course of a four-day coordination conference that concluded in Shillong on Thursday.Kumar raised several border issues, including that of Indian insurgent groups being active in Bangladesh, with the BGB. “Violation of the international border by Bangladeshi nationals for committing crimes in Indian territory was also raised,” said a BSF statement. “The BSF insisted on checking inflow of fake Indian currency notes from Bangladesh to India,” added the statement. In fact, the bonhomie between the two forces was apparent with the BGB team being taken for ‘sight-seeing’ to Cherrapunjee before crossing the check-point at Dawki to return to Bangladesh.
