I’ll probably not dance again in a bikini: Evelyn Sharma
After adding yet another successful movie ‘Yaariyan’ and a chartbuster ‘Sunny Sunny’ to her kitty, Evelyn Sharma is basking in all the attention she is getting in the industry these days. In Ranchi for the inauguration ceremony of Hockey India league, Evelyn Sharma spoke to Ranchi Times, outlining her strategy to capitalise on her recent successes in the tinsel-town, her preference for Bollywood over Hollywood and why she doesn’t want to wear bikini for a song again.

After having a quite successful run as a professional model in India and abroad, we asked Evelyn what prompted her to try her luck in Bollywood. “While growing up, I was always a little bit of a drama queen, so my mom always used to call me an actress. So maybe the inspiration was already there then but I never imagined that I would take it up as a profession and make a living out of it. I was apprehensive about it as I had never been to India before. I had decided to visit India when I’ll turn 30 and go on an ‘eat, pray, love’ kind of trip, travelling all over India and discover my roots. But when my colleagues kept pushing me to try my hands at movies, I decided to go for it. Luckily, all my work as a model was already being noticed by the producers who offered me work instantly. I now think that it was my destiny to work here in Bollywood and there is no point in cribbing about something when its good,” Evelyn says.
While even many established actors can be often heard telling stories about how much they had to struggle in order to get a foothold in the industry, we wondered if foreign looks makes it easier for the firang babes to secure roles and Evelyn agrees. “Definitely! It’s much easier for foreign girls to get recognition as they have got this look already. They do bag roles, sometimes important ones like Gisele did in Love Aaj Kal, but for most of them the scope remains limited to roles like playing an NRI as they don’t have knowledge of Indian culture and most importantly, command over language. Apart from that, most of the foreign girls are so hot that the producers only see them as item girl or cast them in a steamy role. However, they do get break like Nathalia Kaur, Sunny Leone and others got but if you really want to be an actress, that too for a living, you need to have a shelf life which you can only have by signing more and more movies and good ones,” feels the actress.
All said and done, we reminded Evelyn about the fact that she has not played a lead role in any movie yet and all the films she has done were multi starrers. In this scenario, we asked her strategy to consolidate her position in the tinsel-town. “I don’t mind working in a multi-starer film as long as I like the role that is being offered to me. One can get noticed in even a five second role while many actors have flopped even after doing lead roles. So, to me, it doesn’t matter if I’m doing a lead role or not as long as work is getting recognised. Apart from that, I don’t think there is a recipe to be successful in Bollywood,” avers Evelyn.
