'Dangal' box-office collection first week: Aamir Khan film speeds towards the 200-crore mark

The first week collections of Aamir Khan's Christmas release 'Dangal' are out and the film has collected a whopping sum of Rs 197.53 crore. The sports drama, which also stars Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra and Sakshi Tanwar in lead roles, earned Rs 20.29 crore to reach this staggering figure. The drop from Wednesday when it collected Rs 21.46 crore, is barely 5 percent.

The collections are expected to go up during the second weekend as 'Dangal' has no major Bollywood release to compete with.Also, the film's tax-free status in the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will boost its business. The Nitesh Tiwari-directed film, which is a biopic on Indian wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, is so far the second biggest hit of the year, lagging behind Salman Khan-starrer 'Sultan.' Will 'Dangal' be able to dethrone 'Sultan' to emerge the biggest hit of the year? That's something to watch out for.
