It's going to be high-tech birthday for Karunanidhi

CHENNAI: If social media is mainly associated with youngsters, then DMK chief M Karunanidhi will become younger on his next birthday. Karunanidhi is taking a high-tech route to reach out to party cadres who want to wish him on his 92nd birthday that falls on June 3.
The party has reserved an exclusive phone number — 54242 — to help the cadres send birthday SMS greetings to Karunanidhi.
The party has also decided to tap social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus for this purpose. It has created hashtags like “#Kalaignar92” and ‘#HBDMK.” Similar hashtags are available in Tamil.
A statement from the party said cadres could also post their wishes on Karunanidhi's website.
“We have made special arrangements to help global Tamils, partymen and general public send greetings to Kalaignar,” the statement said.
Karunanidhi has been active on Facebook and Twitter for the past couple of years. Sources close to him say the nonagenarian leader personally go through the responses for his posts in social media.
